Drawn To Clay
Meet Rosemary Aicher of Drawn To Clay, whose remarkable journey from Mediterranean archaeology to ceramic artistry brings a unique depth to her handmade creations. With a degree in Art, Art History and Anthropology from the University of Toronto, Rosemary's archaeological background profoundly influences her painting, drawing, and ceramics, creating pieces that resonate with historical depth and artistic sophistication.
Her impressive credentials include being Artist in Residence at the Schneider Haus in 2009, where she shared her expertise through demonstrations and workshops. Rosemary has been actively involved with prestigious organisations including the Waterloo Potters Workshop and Clay and Glass Gallery, serving on their boards and committees whilst contributing to the broader ceramic arts community.
Recognition for her exceptional work includes a 2014 Hamilton Guild Biennial Award, leading to her solo exhibition at the Carnegie Gallery in Dundas in 2016. That same year, she received awards at both Earthborn and the Hamilton Biennial, cementing her reputation as a distinguished ceramic artist.
Rosemary's pieces reflect her scholarly background and artistic training, creating ceramics that are both beautiful and intellectually engaging. Her work embodies the intersection of history, culture, and contemporary craft - perfectly aligned with Penseru's commitment to meaningful, thoughtfully created artisan pieces.
